Conversion range of the export

Question:

Which PowerPoint functionalities or objects are not correctly exported?

Functionality/Object

Kind of problem

Video and sound objects

Are not supported.

User-defined animation (exception: animation type "appear" and "dissapear")

Some effects are not supported.

OLE objects and diagrams

Imported as image, no editing possible.

WordArt and AutoForm objects in single cases

Imported as image.

Page number format

Not all formattings are supported.

Text attribute: "shadow" and "emboss"

Not supported.

Tabs

Wrong positioning possible.

Fonts

Only installed TrueType fonts can be used to display text objects.

Format specification "justified" is ignored

Incorrect display.

PowerPoint 2007: Special effects (reflection, glow, soft edges)

Objects are exported as image.

Video- and sound objects

Video and sound objects are not supported. There are no objects displayed in the LECTURNITY Assistant.

Animations in PowerPoint

The PowerPoint export of LECTURNITY does support fade-ins, but not with the full functionality range PowerPoint offers. The following restrictions exist:

  • Automatic fade-ins (e.g. time controlled fade-ins) are not supported and can therefore not be realized in the LECTURNITY Assistant.
  • Special effects during fade-ins, e.g. sound or continuous movements, are not displayed in the LECTURNITY Assistant.

Objects exported as images

Some objects in PowerPoint are not completely supported by the LECTURNITY Assistant yet, such as the following:

  • some autoshapes,
  • WordArt objects,
  • objects with shadow effect,
  • objects with 3D effect,
  • objects with color gradient,
  • objects with reflection (PowerPoint 2007),
  • objects with glow effect (PowerPoint 2007),
  • objects with soft edges (PowerPoint 2007),
  • mathematical formulars,
  • rotated text and
  • objects imported from other Office Programs.

During the export, these objects are converted into images. In most cases, no difference in the presentation between PowerPoint and the LECTURNITY Assistant is visible. In a few cases, however, it might lead to a wrong positioning or to a distorted presentation. If "No fillings" is set as background color, then images with transparent parts result. This should be avoided. (see Images with transparent parts).

Page number format

If the page number is part of a text object the formatting of the text object is ignored and the page number is always displayed as left-aligned. The alignment of page numbers in placeholder objects is correct.

Use of tabs

Question:

Why is text displayed at the wrong position in the LECTURNITY Assistant after the export from PowerPoint?
One possibility of this behaviour can be the use of tab stops for the indention of text. Since the calculation of the width of a tab stop in the LECTURNITY Assistant can differ from the calculation in PowerPoint, text can be displayed at the wrong position.

Solution:

Use blanks instead of of tab stops for the indention of text.

Text attribute "shade" is not displayed

Question:

Why is shaded text in PowerPoint not displayed as such in LECTURNITY?

Solution:

In PowerPoint, text is displayed shaded after selecting the text attribute "shade". This function is not supported by the LECTURNITY Assistant: the text is displayed, but without shades.

Instead of page numbers the text "<Nr.>" is displayed

Question:

Why are, in some presentations, page numbers not displayed? Instead every slide contains the the text "<Nr.>"?Probably the text field that contains the page number placeholder is too small. The placeholder text in this field is wrapped and cannot be recognized properly upon export.

Solution:

Please enlarge the respective text field so that the text within doesn't get wrapped anymore. After that page numbers should be exported correctly.

Format specification "Justified" is ignored

Text blocks which are specified as justified in PowerPoint will be displayed left-aligned in the Assistant.

OLE objects and diagrams

OLE objects (e.g. Excel sheet) and diagrams are imported as images. They are visible in the LECTURNITY Assistant, but not editable.

Erroneous error message "There is not enough disk space…" in the case of a repeated PowerPoint Import

When importing a PowerPoint document, a LECTURNITY Source Document is created. If the variant "File → Open with LECTURNITY Assistant" in PowerPoint, or the variant "File → Import PowerPoint Document" in the Assistant is used, the directory and file name of the LECTURNITY Source Document are automatically generated from the LECTURNITY Home directory and the file name of the PowerPoint file. If this LECTURNITY Source Document is already opened in the Assistant, for example as the result of a previous import of this PowerPoint file, an erroneous error message appears when importing the file again stating "There is not enough disk space. The conversion is interrupted." This can also happen when using the import variant "File → Save as LECTURNITY Source Document …" in PowerPoint if the same file name and the same directory have been selected as in the previous import.

Deactivated menu entries

Question:

During the installation of LECTURNITY, two menu entries are added in PowerPoint, "Open with LECTURNITY Assistant" and "Save as LECTURNITY Source Document". These entries are only active when PowerPoint contains at least one document. If only one document is loaded and you select "Close" in the file menu, but then cancel this action the menu entries are incorrectly deactivated.

Solution:

In order to reactivate the menu entries, it is sufficient to select "Open" in the file menu and to end this action by pressing the "Cancel" button.
